Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master Brennan Mulligan has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of personalities, and a thrilling plot including angels, fiends, and dark forces growing in influence within Dol-Makjar.
Warning: Key plot points for the latest installment of Campaign 4 follow below.
The Warrior Group Revealed
The third episode ended with a dramatic pause and revealed the initial group of adventurers who will separate from the main group to undertake their independent quest, distinct from the additional parties.
The Soldiers table consists of Teor (played by Travis), Thimble (Laura Bailey), Tyranny (Whitney Moore), the cleric (the player), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie Daymond).
Why Split the Party?
Given 13 cast members, it was evident from the start that maintaining everyone at a single group would be unfeasible.
Hence, the opening chapters of the new season serve as an Introduction, connecting the characters’ stories before splitting into three smaller tables: Fighters, Schemers, and Seekers.
The Nature of the Warrior Group
According to the DM, the combat-focused party is for participants who are drawn to a traditionally charged fight-heavy story mode where peaceful solutions are few and far between.
Upon first impression, characters like the hesitant healer Wicander Halovar might appear unsuited, but the developments of episode 3 make it clear why these specific adventurers are best suited for the warrior group.
Why They Must Go
To begin with, the party has a clear idea where to proceed after a intense first encounter with the enemy group.
A former ally of the deceased character—whose passing started the story’s plot—used The Crow Keepers for his own means, entering the secret base, striking the rogue, and swiping all the magical artifacts to dispose of.
The traitor then cleared his obligations and fled to a secure base in Gormalay, Timmony, north of the city, with Cyd Pridesire pursuing him.
Personal Motivations
Secondly, each member has a individual motive to exit Dol-Makjar:
- The agile hero, as Thjazi’s partner and closest confidant, wants vengeance.
- The adventurer knows Timmony and warns that it is a hostile place.
- The warrior and The healer, having disobeyed his relatives’ demands to eliminate the fighter and instead rescued him, have no safe haven.
- However, their reputation as key figures in the influential clan could assist the group access areas they usually can’t.
- Additionally, The grateful character swore a life debt to The cleric for his salvation and will now accompany him anywhere.
Pursued by Authorities
Finally, all of them are wanted by the authorities that control the city for a range of causes, making remaining behind too risky:
- The agile adventurer and The hero are known criminals.
- Tyranny and Wicander turned against the influential house and the army of fiends they are aligned with.
- The fighter is wanted dead by the clan.
This leaves them few options but to travel to the remote area in quest for the antagonist.
What’s Next?
According to the latest episode’s follow-up content, we learn that the combat party will be absent next week, leaving the rest of the cast members to form the Questers and Strategists tables.
Fans can expect discovering which players will be assigned to which table in the season’s final introductory chapter, available to watch on October 24.
