The Iconic Puzzle Game Didn't Succeed at This Gaming Ceremony — A New Category May Address This Issue

As any major prize-giving event draws close, one notices a demand to include of new categories to acknowledge unsung work and satisfy the hearts of enthusiasts with niche passions.

My colleague previously argued for a horror game category. It would be amazing. The same goes for strategy board titles, which is a dedicated supporter's campaign. However, I must insist when I prioritize since similar to blinkered fanatics, I have a cast-iron argument supporting my request remains most pressing and important of all. Here's the proposal: It's essential to create a classification for brain-teasing titles.

Organizing Gaming Categories

Classifying creative works defies precise measurement; opinions vary greatly, and inevitably generate discussions resulting in unclear classifications. There’s a reason film award organizations avoid this approach. But it is an essential concession for the industry of interactive entertainment, showing incredible range it's challenging to consider them a single creative category.

To recognize the complete range of gaming accomplishments to be recognized, and for games of all stripes to have a chance for representation, specific award classifications remain vital.

Existing Game Classification System

Leading game ceremonies currently feature classifications covering Action-oriented games, Action/Adventure, Role-Playing, Combat games, Simulation and strategy titles, and Sports/Racing games. Between them, these classifications effectively encompass many game types, allowing placement accommodating various experiences.

This doesn't apply to puzzle games. There’s simply nowhere to put them. Think about these outstanding current releases, all very different: the architectural riddles from a specific release, intense tile-matching in a different title, thought-provoking social scenarios in another game. Which classification works between these six categories? Simply put, no category fits.

Acknowledgment Issues

Many instances occur excellent brain-teasers released every year lacking appropriate categories during gaming ceremonies, if they accidentally match award groups including Mobile Game, VR/AR Game, or the extremely competitive small studio competitions.

  • One classic puzzle game wasn’t nominated completely in 2014
  • Another creative title received no nominations that year
  • A beloved organization game was overlooked that year
  • Limited numbers of logic titles scraped into small studio or handheld classifications

Significance of Puzzle Games

These are often small games, but the art behind logic titles carries substantial weight. Well-known matching games count as most popular titles globally continuing this trend for over a decade.

The iconic tile-matching title competes with popular creative games claiming status as highest-selling title ever; it’s also in the running for best game of all time. Logic titles represent cornerstones within interactive entertainment, and engaging across multiple categories.

The Solution and Justification

Brain-teasers wouldn't encounter that issue. It would be easy to populate a field of five engaging, different, qualified experiences each ceremony simply — perhaps, with difficulty, since numerous excellent many worthy titles.

Restating the point, these represent titles without proper classification in important events. Logic title developers operate at the hard edge interactive creation, developing some of most fundamental forms of gaming itself. Similar to film action specialists, they deserve recognition. Don't make them wait 35 years.
