RAF Typhoon FGR4s have conducted a mission with French warplanes in a joint strike on an hidden munitions depot in Syria used by the Islamic State group (IS), per a report from the British defence ministry.
The facility, pinpointed through intelligence, was assessed as containing munitions and bombs, the announcement noted, and was situated in hills just north of Palmyra in the heart of Syria.
"Our aircraft utilized Paveway IV guided bombs to target a series of approach shafts down to the site... preliminary assessments suggest the strike was effective," the ministry announced.
There was no sign of any civilian casualties in the strike conducted Saturday night and every plane involved returned to base without incident, the MoD added.
The British jets were assisted by a Voyager tanker plane.
Daesh - referred to as Daesh - imposed extremist governance over large swathes of Syria and Iraq before its territorial defeat in 2019.
"This strike shows the UK's leading role, and resolve to operate in unison with allied nations, to stamp out any re-emergence of IS and their harmful and extremist ideologies in the Middle East," Britain's Defence Chief John Healey remarked.
UK warplanes have performed patrols over Syria to "prevent any efforts to regroup" of Islamic State following its defeat at the Baghuz confrontation in 2019, the MoD reported.
"I must thank the personnel of British forces participating in this operation for their professionalism and their bravery," he said. "They were part of a great many British personnel on duty over Christmas and New Year. This mission, to take out terrorist threats who threaten our safety, demonstrates how UK forces are ready to step up, continuously, ensuring Britain's security at home and strong abroad."
During December, the US military executed what it called a "large-scale strike" targeting Islamic State objectives in Syria, subsequent to an ambush resulted in the deaths of two US servicemembers and a local interpreter in Palmyra.
The U.N. says Daesh still has an estimated 5,000 to 7,000 militants in Iraq and Syria.
